With the restructuring of the SAMS business model in 2001, SAMS Research Services Ltd was born and embarked upon a mission to provide services geared towards the needs of the commercial sector with a particular focus on the delivery of marine related applications and services. Since then SRSL has grown from strength to strength and is now a significant player in the marine sector.

SRSL has a long and established pedigree in the delivery of marine services and assessments. SRSL is a wholly owned subsidiary of the Scottish Association for Marine Science, which was founded as one of the first ocenographic centres in the world in 1884. Backed by this long track record in oceanographic research and a wealth of experience of the marine environment, SRSL provides its advice and expert opinion to a broad range of stakeholders and clients.

In its present form, SAMS Research Services Ltd (SRSL), was established in October 2001, as part of the SAMSGroup. Its remit is to act as a driver to further the commercialisation of the resource base that is present at the Dunstaffnage site. By doing so, it aims to develop and build the reputation of the SAMSGroup through an expanded portfolio of activities and relationships with users, stakeholders and clients. SRSL has a particular strength in undertaking and co-ordinating major projects transcending traditional disciplinary boundaries in order to address often complex marine problems. As such, SRSL acts as a node for the integration of both internal and external resource to assure delivery of the client needs.

Since its creation, SRSL has steadily increased its portfolio of activities ranging from the commercialisation of new technologies, the provision of airtime, monitoring and hyperbaric services to a full package of environmental services tailored to the marine environment. Its aspirations are to become a major supplier of resource and expertise to the wider commercial marketplace by maintaining and further developing objective, robust, professional and qualitatively excellent services.
