Development of novel technology is essential to aid exploration and exploitation of the marine environment. Through SRSL, development of novel technology is stimulated and commercialization is aided to increase availability to a wider market place.

SRSL is active in different areas of technology development. It offers expertise in innovative, autonomously operated instrumentation,as well as development of new and modification of existing technology. A significant part of our work focusses on development of benthic landers (e.g. HOMER) and profiling equipment (e.g. MIDAS), the use of drifting buoys and satellite communication technology.

Moreover, SRSL participates in initiatives to aid commercialization of fundamental research initiatives that are in a proof of concept stage of development. Examples are the development of Molecularly Imprinted Polymer Sensors for
selective detection of chemicals in the marine environment (MIPSTIX) as well as the isolation and identification of natural marine compounds that can be applied as emulsifiers (BIOBAC).
